Sun. Day and night.SOLAERA – the heat pump system to cover all your heat requirements
Innovation prize
2007
At the last leading international symposium "Thermal Solar Energy", SOLAERA was awarded the OTTI 2007 Innovation Prize
Efficiency through our patented system With current technology around 20% - 40% of the house heating supply could be covered by solar energy. With the innovative solar heat pump system SOLAERA, the combination of solar thermal technology, a heat pump and a latent heat/ice storage tank, enables energy savings of up to 85%. SOLAERA is way ahead of conventional heat pump systems. The collector recovers heat, not only during the day, but also at night or on overcast days. Whereas conventional Heat pumps use ground probes or other heat sources, here the interaction of the heat pump, the latent heat storage tank and the hybrid collectors perform this task. Heating with an ice storage tank Traditional heat Pumps make low temperature heat usable. In the latent heat/ice storage tank of the SOLAERA system, heat is stored at a low temperature level without loss. The thawing and freezing of water enables large volumes of energy to be stored in a very small space. The capacity volume of the 320 litre latent heat ice storage tank of the SOLAERA system is thus equivalent to a 2500 litre heat storage tank. Heat is extracted from the water/ice in the latent heat storage tank and raised to a higher temperature level via a heat pump, so it can be used for heating and hot water provision. Reliable and safe with an unending supply of free energy Oil and gas will only be available for a few more decades, but energy prices are already going up because the development of new energy supplies can no longer keep up with demand. With energy generation through the SOLAERA system you are using a reliable energy source, since the sun will be shining for many million years to come. Moreover, the electricity to operate the heat pump can come form many sources, preferably, of course, from climate-friendly “green” electricity.
Environment advantages cannot be bettered The primary energy saving with heat generation through SOLAERA amounts to 60% compared to oil or gas boilers. The low power consumption of the system results in much better environmental compatibility compared to oil and gas or conventional heat pumps. The negative impact on the atmosphere, the climate and thereby on our children's future is thus minimised. Save space and cut costs The energy centre of the SOLAERA system is very compact. The heat pump and the complete hot water and heating control system are accommodated above the latent heat storage tank. The combined storage tank is installed near by. No space is required for gas connections, Tanks or storage vessels. Neither is a chimney required. Up to now powerful heat pumps were operated with ground probes or other heat sources, but these are not needed in the case of SOLAERA. Thus boring and excavation work for geothermal heat exchangers is not necessary. Incomparably great advantages: I The SOLAERA system from Consolar can cover the complete heat supply requirement, using only solar energy, for a modern single-family house built according to EnEV standard. The annual system coefficient of performance is double that of conventional solar systems. I The hybrid collector harvests not only direct solar heat by converting irradiation, but also indirect solar heat via the heat in the ambient air. I No costs are incurred for ground probes or ground collectors and the related excavation work usually required for heat pumps. I With the innovative latent heat storage tank, the heat volume of a 2500 litre heat storage tank can be accommodated in an area of 0.65 m2. I Storage of the heat at low temperatures ensures virtually lossless energy storage. I The power consumption compared to powerful brine/water heat pumps is 20% - 35% lower.
