The necessity of the document shredder: Misuse of data causes millions in damages!
Whether it’s at home or at work everyone needs to protect themselves from data misuse! Letters, printouts, notices still end up in the waste paper basket all too fast and can be easily seen by third parties. Yet we need to be extremely careful with personal data! Companies are even obligated by the German and European data protection laws. But other dangers await us as well; increasingly, companies are being specifically spied on due to rising competitive pressure. Criminal industrial spies search for information in the company environment on prices, product development, technical expertise and company strategies. The firewall and dataencryption have all been thought about – but not the danger zone in the waste paper basket. Or where did the flip chart sheets, notes or poor copies from the last meeting end up? Screwed up in the waste paper basket? If so, then the gates are open for industrial espionage and data misuse and a considerable loss of reputation or financial loss becomes inevitable.

One survey shows – data protection is underestimated!

On behalf of HSM, a survey was conducted in a number of companies from various sectors. Despite the EU data protection guidelines with the deterrent of up to 250,000 euros in fines and the threat of imprisonment, the survey revealed some alarming results. 45% of all those asked are not aware that data theft from dustbins can lead to considerable misuse. Of the financial service providers that were asked, 23% have no internal guidelines whatsoever regarding data protection. Around 11% of those working in banks throw papers away with financial transactions straight in the paper basket.
